Christmas may be different this year but it certainly isn’t cancelled!
We have a tradition in this parish that the faithful bring to our churches the traditional poinsettia plant to decorate the church. We usually dedicate the plants in memory of loved ones whom we have lost or as a symbol of our prayer for the living or particular intentions. With the world, our country and our city currently in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic and people struggling because of it, this year we decided to do something different.
Responding to the need and still bringing our intentions to the infant Jesus
Instead of filling the church with poinsettia plants we decided to donate the cost of a large poinsettia and have virtual poinsettias instead. Yes, that’s right, virtual poinsettias! The cost of the poinsettia was divided between helping those struggling in our communities through the Archbishop’s Food Voucher Scheme and decorating the church for Christmas. We still placed our dedications, we just haven’t bought a plant!
The virtual book below contains the dedications for this years “Virtual” poinsettias. Thank you to all who contributed so generously.
