The words of Jesus are call to respect the dignity if every human person. Through corporal works of love, mercy and charity we become the mouth, hands and feet of Christ to the world.
There are a number of ways you can serve and help with social outreach in our parish, some of which are listed below. You can also find out more by contacting the parish office.
St Vincent De Paul Society (SVP)
The St. Vincent de Paul Society serve and minister to the poor and to promote dignity in accordance with Christian Values. Poverty comes in many forms and the SVP is here to help, with groups based out of our city centre, Malpas and Caerleon locations.
Vincentians work as a team in collaboration with other people of good will to serve the poor, and discover ways to help end poverty.
Bereavement Support Group
The Bereavement Support Group reaches out to those who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one. No one has to go through this painful journey alone. The group provides counsel, friendship, prayer, and love in an atmosphere of trust. Being in the company of others who have also experienced grief is often a comfort and hope.
Newport & Bettws Food Banks
The Foodbanks exist to provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred in crisis.
The Newport Foodbank operates out of the Christchurch Centre on Malpas Road, whilst the Bettws Foodbank operates out of St. David’s Community Church House on Tone Close.
Donations for the Foodbanks can be dropped off at our churches, and we are always in need of co-ordinators throughout out locations. Contact the parish office for more information.
Need Help?
Asking for help can be difficult, but we are here without judgement and may be able to help. If you need any help please send us a request and if we can help we will, and we can’t we may be able to point you to someone who can.
