Introduction & Background
The parish is the most important organisation in the world. We are charged with bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to Newport and its surrounding areas bring others to Jesus and helping the community of believers to grow and flourish. If we truly believe this then the leadership of the parish priest is critical, but he also cannot do it alone.
The Leadership Team share the responsibility for leading the vision and mission of the parish. The team shares in the parish priest’s responsibility for governance. Striving to be led by the Holy Spirit, this team views the parish as a whole and decides where the Lord is calling for greater health, accountability, and missional activity. This means helping the parish priest to address practical, tactical questions related to structures, methods/ministry models, programming, use of resources, etc. that either further or hinder the realisation of the vision.
The team works to strategically drive forward parish renewal following the principles of ‘maintenance to mission’ and to work together with the parish community across areas of parish and community life, empowering parish groups to thrive in their ministry.
The Leadership Team has been formed according to leadership principles and the principles of the fivefold ministry of the Church as described in Ephesians 4:
It is out of these qualities the Leadership Team leads the Mission:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.
And remember I am with you always to the end of time”.
